My family and I are so excited to announce that we are expecting our second child in February! We know that Whitney will be a great older sister and we look forward to our family growing.

HOW DID WE FIND OUT?

Well, this is a funny story. Owen was actually away for work in Calgary when I found out. I distinctly remember it was a Thursday morning and Owen was due to land back in Toronto that evening. We were leaving for Ireland for a family vacation that Saturday and I was about 3 days late with my period. I had a big hunch that I could be pregnant and just needed to know whether my trip to Ireland was going to be a sober one or not! So I bought a test that Wednesday evening and saved it to take the next morning (fun tip: home pregnancy tests are more accurate from morning pees than evening pees).

So I woke up that Thursday morning, peed on the stick and soon enough, the second line turned pink. My reaction was literally “I KNEW it!” I had the biggest hunch all week that I was pregnant; it’s a feeling I can’t quite explain, but it was like I felt it in my bones. Needless to say, I was ecstatic!

Since Owen was in Calgary, I decided to wait until the evening when he arrived back home to tell him in person. I had it all planned out. I was going to leave the positive pregnancy test in our bedroom bathroom on the sink, so that when he walked in he immediately saw it. I was going to capture it all on video so that we had a nice little keepsake to watch in the future with our kids. If you haven’t caught on yet, this plan did not happen at all.

Right after the test turned positive, I decided to download one of my pregnancy apps that I used for Whitney again to find out exactly how far along I was (side note: I love that apps calculate all of this for you!). It said I was 4 weeks and 3 days and that my due date was February 13, 2018. I said to myself “Ok good, now I have a due date to tell Owen tonight.” I quickly got Whitney and myself ready for the day as I had a work meeting first thing in the morning and still needed to drop off Whitney to daycare. So off we went!

Right after my meeting (which lasted about an hour), I saw that I had a missed call and a text from Owen. I read the text and it said, “Hi honey – do you have something to tell me?” along with a screenshot of an email from the pregnancy app confirming my due date and how far along I was. DAMMIT!!! But also, LOL! I totally forgot that Owen was also on the email list from that app when I was pregnant with Whitney. Literally, the subject line of the email to him said: Sacha Welsh’s pregnancy – due February 13, 2018. I read his text and looked at the screenshot and laughed out loud. My plan was ruined but um, how funny of a way is this for him to find out??? Just casually scrolling through his emails for the day and then BAM, sees this. I called him right away and we laughed our butts off. He was definitely shocked that the news came so soon but he was thrilled.

I am super excited to be going through this journey again and sharing it with all of you. As of today, I am 18 weeks along and feeling great. Specializing in pre and post-natal moms is my calling and makes me so happy. Here’s to a happy and healthy pregnancy to all!
